Hugh Freeze Contract Buyout

Hugh Freeze inks new Liberty contract making him one of highest-paid non-Power 5 coaches

Fourth-year Liberty coach Hugh Freeze's new eight-year deal will pay him an average of more than $4 million per year and is fully guaranteed.

Freeze, who has a 25-10 record in three seasons at Liberty, is now one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five.

Liberty University and head football coach Hugh Freeze have reached an agreement on a new eight-year contract extension that will keep Freeze with the Flames through the 2030 season.

The contract is a significant pay raise for Freeze, who was previously making $2.5 million per year. The new deal will pay him an average of more than $4 million per year, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five.

Freeze has been a major success at Liberty, leading the Flames to a 25-10 record in three seasons. He has also led Liberty to two bowl games, including a win over Eastern Michigan in the 2023 Cure Bowl.

Freeze's success at Liberty has not gone unnoticed by other schools. In fact, he was a finalist for the Auburn head coaching job in 2022.

However, Freeze ultimately decided to stay at Liberty, and the new contract extension shows that the university is committed to keeping him in Lynchburg.

The new contract is a major coup for Liberty, which is looking to build on its recent success under Freeze.

With Freeze at the helm, the Flames have a chance to become a major player in the Group of Five and compete for conference championships.
