An Overview of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation

The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation (minjust.gov.ru) is the federal executive body that exercises the functions of developing and implementing state policy and legal regulation in the sphere of judicial system and civil, administrative, labor, criminal, penitentiary, and arbitration proceedings. Moreover, the Ministry of Justice also oversees the areas of notaries, advocacy and legal assistance.

The main objectives of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation are to:

  • Provide legal assistance to citizens and organizations.
  • Strengthen the judicial system and improve the efficiency of justice.
  • Develop and implement state policy in the sphere of penitentiary system.

Konstantin Chuychenko, Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation

Konstantin Anatolyevich Chuychenko (born June 15, 1965, in Sverdlovsk, Russian SFSR, USSR) is a Russian lawyer and statesman, who has been serving as the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation since January 21, 2020.

Biography

Chuychenko was born on June 15, 1965, in Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg), Russian SFSR, USSR. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Ural State University in 1987. After graduation, he worked as a lawyer in various law firms. In 1993, he founded his own law firm, which later became one of the leading law firms in Russia.

In 2008, Chuychenko was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation. In 2014, he was promoted to the First Deputy Minister of Justice. On January 21, 2020, he was appointed as the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation.

Activities as Minister of Justice

As the Minister of Justice, Chuychenko has been responsible for overseeing a number of important reforms, including the reform of the judicial system, the reform of the penitentiary system, and the reform of the legal aid system. He has also been actively involved in developing and implementing state policy in the sphere of international legal cooperation.

Chuychenko is a highly respected figure in the Russian legal community. He is a member of the Presidium of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights under the President of the Russian Federation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Legal Academy of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.
